Solar Water Heaters, also sometimes called Solar Domestic Hot Water (DHW) Systems are a cost-effective way to generate hot water for your home. They are very efficient in the climate we experience in the Mid-Atlantic area, and the fuel they use, sunshine, is free.

Solar Water Heating Systems include some type of storage tank and one or more Solar Collectors, usually installed on the roof. A Pump Station, with a Solar Controller operates a pump that circulates fluid through the collectors into a Heat Exchanger, which heats your Hot Water.

Although many factors, such as the orientation, and tilt of the collectors, as well as any potential shading, will affect the output of a Solar System. In this area, a single 30-Tube, Evacuated Tube Collector with a 75 Gallon Storage Tank can provide about 85% of the annual hot water usage for 2 Adults. Adding a 2nd collector can provide up to 90% of the annual usage for a family of 4.
